Uterine fibroids are benign tumors which can cause symptoms such as excessive bleeding, pain and disfigurement. They afflict approximately 25 million women in the U.S. Industry sources indicate that 200,000 - 300,000 of the 600,000 hysterectomies performed in the U.S. each year are due to fibroids. Further, there is a large pool of approximately six million women in the U.S. who are symptomatic enough to see their doctor. For more information about uterine fibroids, click here.

Arteriovenous malformations are groups of abnormal vessels which may occur within the brain and other parts of the body. AVM's develop when there are abnormal communications that directly connect relatively large arteries to veins; thus, the blood is exchanged at a relatively higher pressure with more rapid flow directly into the veins.
